       Introductory Course on Field Epidemiology
Training duration: 1 month

Objectives:
    1. Describe the key principles of epidemiological surveillance and outbreak investigation and explain different types and processes of surveillance and steps in outbreak investigations.
    2. Analyze and interpret the data from surveillance and outbreak investigation; and manage outbreak investigations and deliver the results for policy development, public education and implementation of appropriate interventions; and
    3. Know colleagues from other countries and start personal communication and experience sharing to strengthen surveillance and outbreak investigation capacity in their own countries and the region.

Course contents :
    - Principles of epidemiology and applied biostatistics.
    - Design and methodology for field work.
    - Surveillance and outbreak investigations.
    - Problem exercises and case studies of health problem management.

Evaluation :
    - Training time shall no less than 80% of total time to receive this certificate of training.
    - Use the evaluation form provided.

Types of teaching activities:

Lecture:
      Each speaker will give a talk and invite questions or comments from the participants.

Problem exercise:
      Based on a real case, stories and sequences of events have been developed and will be distributed to the participants. Participants will analyze the data and discuss in a group to find out most suitable solution or answers to the questions with the support of facilitators. Each problem exercise will take about 3 hours.

Summary :
      Each morning, course facilitators will summarize the main points of the previous day’s content as well as encourage question and answer of the topics.
